Pantee x 1% For the Planet: A Match Made in Heaven
From day one, transparency has been at the heart of everything we do at Pantee. We value both people and the planet, and strive to do our best by both at every touchpoint. But, there’s always more that can be done and we're firm believers that true sustainability is a commitment that requires constant progress and accountability.
When we launched Pantee on Kickstarter last November, we outlined our sustainability goals for Year 1 and we are thrilled to announce that we’ve already ticked off a big one! Pantee is now officially a member of 1% for the Planet. From here on out, Pantee will donate 1% of all sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment.
Founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia) and Craig Mathews (founder of Blue Ribbon Flies), 1% For the Planet members have given more than $225 million to environmental organizations to date. We are so excited to join this amazing network of over 2,000 members to amplify the impact we can have as a brand, and give back to this wonderful planet we call home.
How Will We Fulfil Our 1% For the Planet Commitment?
As you may already know, here at Pantee we plant a tree for every single order via One Tree Planted. One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization that focuses on global reforestation. Since 2014, they have been making it easy for individuals to give back to the planet via tree planting, and in 2020 they were able to plant over 10 million trees around the globe.
As an official 1% For The Planet non-profit partner, our commitment to tree planting with One Tree Planted will go a long way to fulfilling our 1% commitment. To date, we have planted over 350 trees in countries around the world thanks to One Tree Planted’s amazing tree-planting projects. We have ambitious goals for the rest of the year, and with your support we can’t wait to see how many trees we can plant!
Why Tree Planting?
From day one, we have been passionate about giving back to the environment. Planting trees is just one way that we are doing that.
Trees are magical! They help clean the air we breathe, filter our drinking water and provide a home to over 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity – and while we agree that the most sustainable solution is to reduce your carbon emissions in the first place, planting trees helps us minimise our impact and reduce our carbon footprint.
The ultimate dream is to go further than just offsetting and become a carbon positive brand. In the meantime, we are very proud to support tree planting organisations around the world with One Tree Planted.
Other Ways Pantee is Giving Back to the Planet
Upcycling Deadstock T-Shirts and Fabrics
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Pantee. All of our comfy underwear sets are created from upcycled t-shirts or deadstock fabrics that have come to us for a multitude of reasons. Currently, less than 1% of all clothing materials are recycled into new garments [Ellen Macarthur Foundation]. By re:working these materials into Pantees, we are keeping perfectly good fabrics and garments in circulation. According to WRAP, upcycling clothes and extending the life of a garment by 9 months reduces its carbon, water and waste footprints by 20-30%.
Plastic Free Packaging
All orders are currently packed (with love) by our mum in North Yorkshire (thanks, Mum!). Our boxes are a mix of recycled card and are sustainably sourced, recyclable and printed using water based ink from our UK based supplier, Freckl. Our packaging also contains tissue paper, stickers and a little thank you postcard, all of which are responsibly sourced and kerbside recyclable.
About Pantee
Pantee is the world's first underwear brand made from upcycled deadstock t-shirts. Co-founded by sisters, Amanda and Katie, during the pandemic, we were inspired to bring Pantee to life after discovering how much waste is produced by the fashion industry. It takes 2,700 litres of water to create just one cotton t-shirt and over 2-billion are produced each year. As if that’s not bad enough, some studies suggest that as much as 30% of all clothes produced are never even sold.
When we learnt this, we just had to do something about it. So, we set out to create the comfiest underwear from deadstock (never been sold or worn) t-shirts to do our part to tackle fashion waste. Fast forward to now, our super comfortable underwear sets are racking up 5* reviews and are loved by hundreds of women of all shapes and sizes.
